What would you do if you won the lottery?
If I won the lottery I’d create a gated community for seniors to live out their days safely and independently, and a second program to help people with records entering back into community. I would like to eliminate long term care homes in favor of safe gated communities with round the clock staff in place. When I worked for a local long term care facility as the resident hairdresser I noticed the residents are either too sleepy to realize what’s happening or they feel like they are in jail. It was aweful, sad. They were only bathed weekly. There needs to be units where seniors can live, more like homes, but go outside if they want to, and even visit with other residents if they are up to it. They would have a bath daily, fresh air daily, and also much more person to person interaction.
In so many cultures the family looks after the senior relatives, and there is no facility where they lock seniors up like in a jail, bath only once a week and feed them all generic food they may or may not enjoy. I don’t understand why we don’t do more for our seniors.
I’d love to create a community where we treasure our seniors, take care of them, and keep them safe.
I would have a salon, a dentist, a dr, a bingo hall, a restaurant, and a coffee shop in my little gated community. The seniors would live in cute little units on their own, but everyone would eat in the restaurant. Services would be free for them, all included in the price of living there.
I would create a program where people getting out of jail could come to work with the seniors and run the businesses in the community. They would gain experience, learn new skills and get references when finished…..but also they would have a place to gain hope, friendships and make a plan for their future. The seniors would have people around to talk, to listen and to teach a thing or two. It’s a win win i think…..as people with records don’t have enough resources, relationships or direction either when they get out of jail.
What do you think? Would this work? I can see this bringing people together, building relationships, and giving people of all ages and backgrounds a sense of community and hope 🙏
